This Privacy Policy explains how PowerSupporter (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses, stores, shares and protects your personal information when you use the Approved! mobile app and its servers (the “App”). It is specific to the App; our general website privacy policy covers powersupporter.com.au.
We are based in Melbourne, Australia, and handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
1. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account details: your e-mail address (when you register with e-mail, or when Apple or Google provides it), a password (we store only a salted hash, never the password itself), your nickname, and your chosen interface and content languages. Optional: profile photo, a short bio and your country or region.
- Sign in with Apple or Google: we receive a unique account identifier from the provider, your e-mail address (Apple may give a private relay address) and, if you allow it, your name. We never receive your Apple or Google password.
- Content you post: requests (title, description, category, optional price and link, photos, who may see it), votes and the reasons you write (including whether you voted anonymously), Better Deals (platform, price, link or screenshot), comments, likes, follows, blocks and reports.
- Photos you choose: the App only reads pictures you pick from your photo library. We resize them and remove embedded metadata such as location before storing them.
- Messages to us: anything you send to our support e-mail address.
Information created by using the App
- Activity and progress: Stamps, titles, badges, your invite code and who invited you, and weekly leaderboard rank.
- Device and technical data: a push notification token, your device platform (iOS or Android) and language, the App version, and server logs containing your IP address, your account id, the actions requested and the time.
- Notifications: the in-app activity notices we create for you (for example “someone voted on your request”).
What we do not collect
- Your contacts or address book
- Your precise or background location
- Microphone or camera recordings
- Advertising identifiers — the App contains no ads and no third-party advertising or analytics SDKs
2. What other people can see
- Your nickname, profile photo, level, badges and bio, the number of followers and people you follow, and a public judging summary (number of public votes, share of Approve votes, accepted Better Deals) are visible to other users.
- Your requests are visible according to the audience you choose: everyone, only your followers, or only friends (people you follow who follow you back). Blocks hide content in both directions.
- Your votes, reasons and comments are visible to people who can see the request. A vote marked anonymous hides your name from other users, but our moderators can still see who cast it, and it counts towards the result.
- Anything you post may be re-shared by others as a screenshot or Verdict Card. Please do not post information you do not want to be public.
3. How we use your information
- To create and run your account, show your content to the people you chose, and calculate results, Stamps, titles and badges
- To send notifications you asked for (votes, comments, results, friends’ posts, badges). You can switch each group off in the App’s notification settings or in your device settings
- To send verification and password-reset codes by e-mail
- To translate text when you tap Translate (see section 5)
- To keep the community safe: review reports, remove content that breaks our Community Guidelines, prevent spam and abuse, and enforce our Terms of Use
- To keep the service secure, fix problems and improve the App, and to meet our legal obligations
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising or to track you across other companies’ apps and websites.
4. Who we share information with
We share information only with service providers that help us run the App, under confidentiality and security obligations, and only what they need:
- Hosting and storage providers for our servers, database and uploaded photos (for example cloud object storage)
- Apple and Google, when you sign in with them, and to deliver push notifications through Apple Push Notification service and Firebase Cloud Messaging. Push messages are relayed through the Expo push service
- An e-mail delivery provider to send verification and password-reset e-mails
- A translation provider when you tap Translate (section 5)
We may also disclose information where required by law or a court, to protect the rights, property or safety of our users, PowerSupporter or others, or in connection with a business sale or reorganisation (you would be told, and this policy would continue to apply).
5. Translation
Nothing is translated automatically. Only when you tap Translate on a request, comment or reason, the text of that item is sent to a third-party translation service and the result is stored so repeat requests do not need to be sent again. We do not send your name or e-mail address with it.
6. How long we keep information
- Your account and content are kept while your account is active.
- E-mail sign-ups that are never verified are deleted after 7 days. Verification codes work once and expire after 48 hours; password-reset codes expire after 2 hours.
- Read notifications are deleted after about 90 days. Push tokens are deleted when a device is no longer valid or has not been used for about 120 days.
- Photos that were uploaded but never attached to anything are deleted within about 24 hours.
- When you delete your account we remove your sign-in methods, e-mail address, profile photo, bio and push tokens, and replace your nickname with “Deleted user”. See how to delete your account for what stays and how to have your posts removed too.
- Server logs and routine backups are kept for a limited period for security and recovery, then removed. Moderation records may be kept longer where needed to protect users or meet legal obligations.
7. Security
We use encryption in transit (HTTPS), store passwords only as salted hashes, keep sign-in tokens in your device’s secure storage, limit staff access to personal information, and process uploaded photos on our servers. No system is perfectly secure; if you believe your account has been compromised, change your password and contact us.
8. Where information is stored
Our servers are operated from Australia. Some providers we use (for example push delivery, photo storage, e-mail and translation) may process information in other countries. We take reasonable steps to make sure they handle it consistently with this policy and the APPs.
9. Your choices and rights
- Access and correction: you can view and edit your profile in the App. Email us to request a copy of the personal information we hold about you or to correct it.
- Deletion: delete your account in the App (Settings → Delete my account) or email us. See Delete your account.
- Notifications: control them in the App’s settings or your device settings.
- Photos: you can revoke photo access in your device settings at any time; the App will then be unable to attach pictures.
- Complaints: contact us first and we will respond within a reasonable time. If you are not satisfied you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).
10. Children
The App is not intended for anyone under 16 and we do not knowingly collect information from children. If you think a child has given us personal information, email us and we will delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. We will post the new version here with a new “Last updated” date and, for significant changes, tell you in the App.
